Bustling scene at a market for street vendors in Saigon
A market for street vendors has been put into operation for over one year at Pham Van Hai Market in HCMC’s Tan Binh District.

Some 20 households have been approved by local authorities to run business at the market at night time, which helps reduce encroachment on public pavements by street vendors.

It is expected that more spaces will be set up at other districts in HCMC to help street vendors run business.

The market is open from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. daily at Pham Van Hai Market in Tan Binh District in HCMC

The location has attracted many customers

Ms. Luu, a vendor at the market, said she used to sell porridge on the pavement of Pham Van Hai Street and later was persuaded to move to the market to do business

Most of the street vendors said the market had few customers at the beginning but has become better known to guests lately

The market offers a diversity of food and snacks for guests, including banh xeo (Vietnamese-style pancake), bread, snails and porridge
