The owner of the restaurant in District 7 said that a trader in the southern province of An Giang bought the fish from Cambodian fishermen and then re-sold it to him

The 2.3-metre fish was so heavy that eight people had to carry it to a vehicle for being transported to HCM City.

According to the owner, the fish is popular with diners. A kilo of the fish costs VND1.5 million (USD71.4).

Many people rushed to the restaurant to see the fish.

The Mekong Giant Catfish, which often lives in the Mekong basin in Southeast Asia and adjacent China, is the biggest freshwater fish in the world. A mature Mekong Giant Catfish can grow to around 3 metres long and weigh over 300 kilos.

Fishermen in the south west region of Vietnam previously caught a 100kg Mekong Giant Catfish.
