VietNamNet Bridge - Dang Thanh Phong from The Gioi Di Dong (Mobile World) has confirmed with Nguoi Lao Dong that the leading mobile phone distribution chain in Vietnam has stopped selling the iPhone 8 because of the slow sales of the model.

“iPhone 8 only has one camera, and its configuration is not really strong, but the selling price is far higher than iPhone 7. Buyers tend to choose iPhone 8 and 7 Plus instead of iPhone 8,” he explained.

“If buyers want next-generation iPhones, they spend a little more to buy iPhone X which has a beautiful design, rather than iPhone 8,” he said.

Mobile phone chains in HCM City also said iPhone 8 has attracted the least attention from users, because there is little difference between iPhone 7 and iPhone 8.

iPhone 8 has faster processing speed with A11 chip, but its RAM capacity is 2GB, smaller than the 3GB RAM of iPhone 7 Plus. In fact, there is no significant difference in the performance of the two machines.

The chains affirmed that iPhone 8 has the worst sales among Apple’s products marketed in the last several years.

The product now has quoted prices of VND17 million and VND18 million for 64GB and 256GB versions, respectively.

However, for VND17-18 million, buyers would rather buy high end Android  models from Samsung, Oppo and Huawei because the models use higher technologies.

Vu Trieu Khuc, the owner of a mobile phone shop on Hung Vuong street, district 5, HCMC, said no iPhone 8 has been sold since pre-Tet days.

“Why should you buy iPhone 8 at VND17-18 million if you can buy iPhone 7 and 7 Plus which have the same quality, at VND6-7 million only?” he said.

Meanwhile, experts say that since the latest generations of iPhone (iPhone Xr, XS and XS Max) have been available in the market for a long time, it’s now time for Apple to stop selling iPhone SE, iPhone 6S/6S Plus, iPhone 7, 8.

Le Duy Nam, an IT university freshman, said he was not surprised if Apple stops the sale of iPhone X.

Nguyen Huy Tan from CellphoneS chain also said that sales of iPhone 8 have been lower than iPhone 7 and iPhone X.

Cao Anh Lai, the owner of a chain specializing in distributing unofficially imported iPhones, confirmed the same, saying that iPhone 8 has two big rivals – iPhone 7 Plus and iPhone X.

“iPhone 8 has faster processing speed with A11 chip, but its RAM capacity is 2GB, smaller than the 3GB RAM of iPhone 7 Plus. In fact, there is no significant difference in the performance of the two machines,” Lai said.
