Yesterday, the last welds of two branches to Hong Kong and Singapore of the AAG cable were completed.

At 6am on August 24, Internet connection was recovered, a CMC Telecom representative said.

The repair schedule of AAG cable changed many times. Last week, AAG cable management unit announced that the repair would finish on August 24, three days longer than the original plan.

On August 22, the unit said the repair wouldbe completed on August 25, one day later due to the impact of typhoon Dianmu.

However, the typhoon did not affect the repair, so the AAG cable was fixed under last week's schedule.

The optical cable was cut at 5pm on August 2. The incident seriously affected the quality of Internet services in Vietnam.

The location where the cable was cut is about 90 km from the South Lantau landing station in Hong Kong.

The last time the AAG was broken was in June 2016. The incident disrupted Internet traffic from Vietnam to the rest of the world for about 7 days.

The AAG is a 20,000-kilometre long submarine communications cable system, connecting Southeast Asia with the US mainland, across the Pacific Ocean via Guam and Hawaii.

With a total investment of approximately $560 million, AAG has a length of nearly 20,000 km, starting from Malaysia (TM) and ending in the US (AT & T Telecom Company).

The segment to Vietnam is 314 km long and lands at Vung Tau.  There are four participants in the system, including FPT Telecom, VNPT, Viettel and SPT.
