PM begins working visit to Japan

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung arrived in Tokyo on late July 2 to commence his three-day working visit to Japan.

The Prime Minister was welcomed at Haneda International Airport by Japanese Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Minoru Kiuchi, Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Hiroshi Fukada, Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Doan Xuan Hung, together with the overseas Vietnamese community.

He is scheduled to take part in the 7th Mekong-Japan Summit to foster the Mekong-Japan co-operation towards supporting socio-economic development in the Mekong region in general and in Vietnam in particular.

Vietnam will take this occasion to affirm its commitment to and role in the co-operational mechanism, while reinforcing its friendship and co-operation with other Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) countries and furthering the Vietnam-Japan Strategic Partnership to be more comprehensive and effective.

The summit has significant importance in passing the Tokyo Strategy 2015 and mapping out co-operation orientations between Japan and five Mekong nations, namely Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam, in the 2016-2018 period.
