The authentic painting was previously presented at the Du Fleuve Rouge au Mékong: Visions du Vietnam (From Hong Ha to Cuu Long: Vietnam Vision) at the Cernuschi Museum from September 20th 2012 to January 27th 2013.

The painting is called “Jeunes femmes prenant le thé” (Girls drink tea, Gouache and ink on silk, 59 x 80 cm, no date of drawing, part of a private collection) is offered for the starting price of 15,000 to 20,000 euros ($19,000-$25,000).

According to art researcher Ngo Kim Khoi in France, this is a fake painting, which is ugly, with vulgar lay-out and its style is not that of the famous Fine Arts College of Indochina so it cannot be an artwork by Vu Cao Dam.

"Generally, this painting lacks the poetic characteristic of silk paintings. More specifically, the line is too clear compared to the authentic silk paintings.

"The signature and stamp are vulgar. Some commented that this could be the draft, but even if it is the draft, painter Vu Cao Dam could not have such a bad draft like this. I do not believe that this famous auction house lacks experts, but are they auctioning this fake painting?", Ngo Kim Khoi said.
