VietNamNet Bridge – Deputy Chairman of Lam Dong Provincial People’s Committee Hoang Si Son has signed a decision to recognize the famous expressionist architectural work called ‘Crazy House’, located on Huynh Thuc Khang street in the city of Da Lat.

The Crazy House
The piece has remained unrecognized for the last 18 years; however, the city’s authorities have still allowed the owner to sell tickets to visitors and have collected taxes from the business.

However, the Lam Dong People’s Committee has finally recognized the work, granting the owner a so-called ‘architectural work ownership certificate’. This is the first time a private home in Lam Dong Province has received such a certificate. One official said authorities granted the certificate because they consider the ‘Crazy House’ a work of art due to its extraordinary characteristics.

The house is the work of female architect Dang Viet Nga, which is affectionally labeled by visitors the ‘Castle of cobwebs’, ‘The house on the stump’, or “The strange house’. The work looks like a cave in the middle of an old forest, but serves as a comfortable hotel. The owner said she has spent VND12bil ($0.75mil) on it over the last 18 years, and she will borrow VND20bil ($1.25mil) more from banks now that she has the certificate to finally complete construction. She has revealed the ambitious plan to turn the house into an original architectural work in Da Lat City.

Da Lat, located in the south of Vietnam, is most well known as an ideal vacation destination.
