Burgeoning economy fuels outbound tourism

VietNamNet Bridge - The number of domestic holidaymakers embarking on overseas tours from HCM City over the national reunification holiday and May Day holiday surged by over 40 percent over the same period from last year.

While locals were in a bigger rush to leave the metropolis for regional destinations than ever before, the number of international visitors to the city also spiked by close to 20 percent from the previous year, according to the municipal Department of Tourism.

City-based Saigontourist said they provided inbound and outbound tours for more than 70,000 foreign and domestic clients, an annual rise of over 30 percent with the top destinations for outbound tourists being China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, the Europe and the US
