Prof. Vo Tong Xuan receives agricultural development awards

VietNamNet Bridge - Professor, Doctor, and People’s Teacher Vo Tong Xuan, Headmaster of the An Giang University, will receive the UMALI Awards, which is presented to typical persons who contribute to the development of agriculture and Southeast Asia.

The Dioscoro L. Umali (DLU) Achievement Award for Agricultural Development is initiated by the Southeast Asia Agricultural Research and Training Centre, Philippine Royal Academy for Sciences and Technology and the Dioscoro L.Umali Foundation in 2008. It intends to underscore the importance of agricultural development in Southeast Asia by recognizing exemplary individuals who have contributed to its advancement in the region.

The award is granted on an annual basis for individuals who have outstanding contribution for agricultural development in the region.

The US $10,000 award will be presented at a ceremony in Los Banos, Philippines on November 27.

Prof. Vo Tong Xuan, 68, is a famous scientist in the field of agriculture. He has greatly contributed to research of rice in the Mekong Delta and education development in this region. He has received many Vietnamese and international awards. He was also presented the Hero of Labor by the Vietnamese State.
