Nortel provides Metro Ethernet Networks in Vietam
13:02' 20/12/2006 (GMT+7)

Nortel Viet Nam is committed in building on the market leadership in the growing Metro Ethernet market. Proliferation of 3G, WiMax, IP-TV, IMS will drive huge bandwidth challenges across all networks - wireless, wireline, cable. Nortel's Metro Ethernet Networks - MEN - is the first step in getting Nortel ahead of that curve to win critical new space in the market.

Nortel's MEN strategy is based on the increasing reliance on Ethernet as the standard protocol for both LAN and WAN communications to break the bandwidth bottlenecks between high-speed fibre-optic networks and Metro networks serving customers and businesses.

Nortel has recently introduced innovations to meet the growing demand for high-bandwidth video and data services in service provider metropolitan networks. Nortel's innovations enable service providers to confidently use Ethernet - once a technology used only for PC connectivity in the LAN - as the means for delivering mission critical high-bandwidth services like IPTV, mobile video, and business services.

Nortel Ranked No. 3 in Metro Ethernet in Asia (excl. Japan) Market. The IDC report also indicates that Nortel was probably the first active proponent of the so-called "Optical Ethernet".
