Viettel to provide Wimax service on trial basis

VietNamNet Bridge – The Viettel Telecom Group launched their trial Wimax services including indoor, outdoor and mobile on December 11, 2006.

Such a service has been provided at the trail basis by the Viettel Telecom Group since August 2006 and the network has reached 10 service stations and 72 customers inside Hanoi by October 2006.

The Wimax service zone radius covers areas from two kilometers in areas with densely packed high-rise buildings to 32 kilometers in spaces with good visibility. The service stations can serve around 3000 subscribers at the same time with a transmission rate of 10 Mbps.

Moreover, the mobile Wimax has been tested successfully, allowing the access rate from 1 to 3 Mbps while moving at speeds of 100km/hour.

In the current context, Hanoi as a densely populated city and complicated topography is selected the model for the experiment of this service.

“We will officially launch this service by mid-2007 for potential customers and map out to expand it when the service becomes popular in late 2007 and early 2008”, said Mr Dinh Bo Linh, Director of Mobile Division under Viettel telecom Group.
