VietNamNet – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung ratified a US$975,000 project late last week that will develop A/H5N1 flu vaccine production in Vietnam.

The project, developed by the Vaccine and Bio-medical Product Company No.1, a department of the Ministry of Health’s Institute for Epidemic Prevention, receives funding from the US Centre for Disease Control (CDC).

The Prime Minister also agreed in principle to the appointment of contractors that will provide foot and mouth disease vaccines throughout 2006. The vaccines are to be imported from China.

The Prime Minister has assigned the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development to select contractors for provision of these vaccines under current regulations, and will take responsibility for the decision.
