Mrs Ba's femur with prop.

VietNamNet – Five months after an operation to re-connect her left femur, Nguyen Thi Ba, 101, of Vinh City is back to the normal life.

Mrs Ba’s left femur fractured after a fall, but due to her advanced years initially doctors did not dare operate to re-connect the broken leg.

However, after nearly two months treatment at home, she was brought to Hanoi’s Vietnam-Germany Hospital on July 26, 2005, where doctors performed an operation using a minimally invasive solution (MIS).

After being admitted on August 6, 2005 and completion of the procedure, Mrs Ba spent ten days in hospital. She has now recovered totally from the operation.

The Vietnam – Germany Hospital is the first in the north to apply MIS procedures. The hospital has used the technique on 60 patients from 55-101 years old.
