A large population of the very rare vooc va chan xam (Pygathrix cinerea) has been discovered in western forests of the central province of Quang Nam.

They have been identified by experts from the US’ MOSAIC office and the local Forest Protection Bureau through their survey conducted this March and April.

Pygathrix cinerea is listed among the world’s top 25 endangered primates.

There are around 600 of this species in Vietnam, mainly in the five provinces of Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Kon Tum and Gia Lai.
