VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnamese top boxer Nguyen Tran Duy Nhat brought home a gold medal in Muay Thai after a convincing win against Thai boxer Nonting Weerapol in the finals on Saturday at Rach Mieu Gymnasium.

Nhat, who also won a gold at the pre-Asian Indoor Games Muay Thai competition, beat Weerapol 4-1 in the men’s feather 57kg event after four bouts to win the only gold medal in Muay Thai.

Facing a strong fighter who likes to fight close, Nhat kept his distance and beat his opponent with well-placed kicks, punched and knees.

"I did my best today and I’m happy with my results," Nhat said, mentioning that he hoped to win a gold medal at 25th Southeast Asian Games in Laos next month.

Boxers Le Huu Phuc and Tran Thi Huong could not defeat Seuaphom Thongbang of Laos and Chinese Jiang Xianting in the men’s fly 51kg event or the women’s light 60kg event, respectively, and got only silver medals.

Meanwhile, at Van Don Gymnasium, Nguyen Thi Tuyet Mai beat Iranian Lari Farinaz 3-0 in the women’s low kick 52kg final to win a gold medal.

Kickboxing’s second gold medal belonged to Dao Thi Thoan, who beat Kamalakar Shimpi Ratnadiptee of India in the women’s semi-contact 50kg final to win gold.

Nguyen Van Su was beat 7-8 by Jordanian Alkhatib Mahmoud in the men’s semi-contact 74kg final.

Nguyen Phi Long lost 1-2 to Jalilnavaznovin Mehdi of Iran in the men’s low kick 51kg final.

In futsal news, Iran won their third gold medal in succession in the men’s futsal event at the third Asian Indoor Games with a penalty shout-out victory over Thailand at Phu Tho Gymnasium on Saturday.

The two teams, who met each other for the third final in a row at the AI Games, drew 3-3 after 40 minutes of normal time and five minutes of extra time.

Makhsud Fayzullaev and Shavkatbek Muhitdinov scored in the 5th and 30th minutes to help Uzbekistan overcome Turkmenistan 2-0 in the third-place match to clinch the bronze medal.
