Five golds put China on top

VietNamNet Bridge – Chinese masters dominated rapid chess with two gold medals for the men’s and women’s individual events yesterday, November 4, in Quang Ninh Province.

Hou Yifan defeated Chen Zhu of Qatar 1.5-0.5 in the women’s final, while her teammate Bu Xiangzhi grabbed a victory in the all-Chinese men’s final, beating Wang Hao 1.5-0.5 to take his gold.

In late boxing finals yesterday, Yang Tingting trounced Vietnamese Le Thi Hien with the unbelievable score of 23-1 to take a gold in the women’s 69kg pool. Her teammate Zhang Qin defeated Laishram Sarita Devi from India 9-7 in the women’s 54kg final.

Their third gold in the sport went to Dong Cheng in the women’s 60kg after she landed a series of hits to Filipino Mitchel Martinez, ending the match 18-3.

The five gold medals helped them takethe top position at the AIG from host Viet Nam. China won 24 gold, 14 silver and 10 bronze after four days of competition.

As one of the top bowling powerhouses in the world, South Korea proved their strength at the women’s doubles event with a gold for Eun Hee-jeon and Yun Hee-son, who ousted Malaysia’s pair li Jane Sin and Fatin Syazliana Adi Nasution 432-393 yesterday.

It was Yun Hee-son’s second gold at this Games. Her first was on Tuesday in the women’s single event when she beat Japanese Maki Sano 193-158.

The Koreans continue to be title favourites at the team of four’s events, which will start today at HCM City’s Super Bowling Centre. The finals will be held on Saturday.

In women’s basketball, Thailand already won the gold medal while the home women’s basketball team will struggle it out for a bronze against Jordan today.

Being new to Viet Nam, kurash has stirred a lot of curiosity just with its name.

Hundreds of Vietnamese people came to Ha Noi’s Gia Lam Gymnasium to watch the martial art of Uzbekistan and the victory of Sharof Kholmamatov, the country’s rival.

Kholmamatov overshadowed Mukhit Tursynov of Kazakhstan in the men’s under-81kg category, taking home a gold medal for his troubles.

Also from Uzbekistan, Nargiza Hamdamova ousted Toktam Bidel Hassanogheh from Iran for her title in the women’s 63kg event.

Later, Iranian Hosseni Ghomi defeated Hassanogheh to bring a gold home after beating Parviz Sobirov of Tajikistan in the men’s under-91kg pool.

The other two gold medals won yesterday belonged to Meirzhan Kalta Yev (66kg) and Olessya Kutsenko (57kg), both from Kazakhstan.

The Kurash event ended after three days of competitions.
