VietNamNet Bridge – More than 500 players, both professionals and amateurs, will compete at the eighth Phu My Hung Cup tennis tournament to be held in HCM City this week.

The eight-day event, which has been held annually since 2000, will open tomorrow at the Wonderland tennis court complex in the Phu My Hung new urban area in HCM City, District 7.

Competitors include corporate executives, overseas Vietnamese and 15 local top players who will play in the round-robin format in four categories – professional, semi-professional, open and friendly – for cash prizes totalling VND166 million (US$10,375).

Organisers say the tournament marks the fourth Vietnamese Entrepreneur Day and the 15th founding anniversary of the Phu My Hung Joint Venture.

Competitors will play in the men’ s and women’ s singles and doubles events at the complex that has just been upgraded at a total cost of VND300 million ($18,750).

The tournament, organised by the Phu My Hung joint-venture in co-ordination with the city’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Viet Nam Tennis Federation and the District 7 Sports Centre, attracted 510 players last year.
