Vietnam won two bronze medals in the 18th Asian Wrestling Championships in Almaty, Kazakhstan on Tuesday.
In the women's 55kg category, wrestler Nghiem Thi Giang successfully defended her medal from last year's tournament, beating a rival from Kyrgyzstan 2-0 in the repechage round.
In the first round, Giang faced a strong contender from China and lost 0-2.
The second medal went to Le Thi Trang who earned a silver medal in last year's 47kg pool.
Returning to competitions after one year of injury, Trang wrestled in the 51kg class but lost 0-2 in the first round to a Chinese contender. In the repechage round, she defeated an opponent from Uzbekistan 2-0.
Vietnam sent five female wrestlers to the tournament but Nguyen Thi Hai Yen, Luong Thi Quyen and Dang Thi Van did not have much success.
Vietnam's female wrestlers were highly regarded at the championships because of the two bronze medals they won and also because they were the only delegation from Southeast Asia region.
The Japanese team took first place at the event with five golds and China finished second with two gold medals.
