Marksmen and women take fire at national cup

Shooters from all over the country will fire their first shots at the National Shooting Cup at National Sports Training Centre 1 in Hanoi today.

The cup will see 200 marksmen and women contest for 46 individual and team medal sets.

According to head of shooting and archery with the National Sports and Physical Training Committee, Nguyen Duc Uynh, Vietnamese shooters will give their most at this competition with their eyes set on gold at the Asian Games in Qatar this December.

Female wrestlers to spar off in Kazakhstan

A five-member women's wrestling squad left on Sunday for the Asian Wrestling Championships in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

At the championships, the national team will compete in five weight categories.

Coaches are hopeful of a repeat of last year's success when Nghiem Thi Giang took home a bronze medal the 55kg class.

Volleyballers to smash at National tournament

Defending men's champions The Cong (Army team) will meet Tra Vinh Post at the National Volleyball Championships' opening match at Phu Tho Gymnasium, today.

Meanwhile, Industrial and Commercial Bank (ICB), who won the National Ail-Star Women's Volleyball Championship after crushing Binh Dien Long An in the final 3-0 (25-17, 25-16, 26-24) two weeks ago, will take on Tuan Chau Quang Ninh.

The championships consist of 24 men's and women's teams competing in a round robin in two groups, divided in two stages.

Yamaha launches trans-Vietnam moto tour

The Yamaha Motors Vietnam and the Asian Yamaha Centre sponsored journey, "Pan ASEAN Tour - Vietnam", began its latest leg yesterday in Hanoi.

The voyage began on November 19,2005 in Indonesia as part of a six-month trans-Asian voyage through Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam and the Philippines. It is scheduled to end in late April.

Twelve riders from the countries are making the 2612-km journey on Yamaha Exciter 135cc motors and will pass through 28 cities before arriving in Can Tho on April 16.
