Over $315,000 raised for flood victims through SMS

VietNamNet Bridge - The Ministry of Information and Communication raised over 5.7 billion dong for flood victims in the central region via mobile text messages. The money was handed over to the Vietnam Fatherland Front on November 26.

 

 

After over one month calling for the people’s contribution to the victims of typhoon Ketsana, 840,803 SMS sent to directory 1400 - a national humane information gateway. Customers from Viettel set the pace with 382,000 SMS worth nearly 2.3 billion dong, followed by Mobifone with 230,000 SMS (nearly 1.86 billion dong), Vinaphone with 210,000 SMS (nearly 1.5 billion dong), EVN and Sfone.

 

Some people sent hundreds of messages each, worth several million dong to help flood victims.

 

The aid will go to Quang Nam (1.8 billion dong), Kon Tum (1.2 billion dong), Quang Ngai (1.2 billion dong) and Phu Yen (over 1.5 billion dong).

 

According to Vu Trong Kim, Vice chairman and Secretary general of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee, the money will be presented directly to victims, with 5 million dong per family to repair their houses.

 

The SMS month in support of flood victims lasted from October 10 to November 11.

 

The Ministry of Information and Communication will continue raising fund for disadvantaged people in the country through the number 1400.
