Senior lieutenant colonel Nguyen Trinh Dong from the Quang Ninh Police Agency told Tuoi Tre Daily that Vietnam joined the convention to protect wild animals so the province would strictly punish violators.

He said that because of a shortage of evidence to bring the case to the court, Quang Ninh authorities instructed the local police agency to ask for instruction from central judiciary agencies.

The province also asked the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to move all 364 bears out of Quang Ninh. Firstly, all 82 bears at the Viet Thai Company will be brought to bear rescue centres.

Quang Ninh has 47 bear breeders with 364 bears in 41 farms.

On October 2, police officers caught in the act the Viet Thai Company to collect bear bile to sell to Korean tourists.
