VietNamNet Bridge – The Vietnam Social Insurance Agency has asked the Prime Minister’s permission to build a social welfare code system for all Vietnamese citizens.

The agency’s deputy general director Do Van Sinh said the agency is trying to ensure all workers have social insurance and a health insurance service to by 2014.

The agency plans to develop a system of social insurance codes for all Vietnamese citizens. Accordingly, each citizen will have a number for life and a national database of social insurance will be set up.

So far, nearly 9 million people have social insurance in the form of compulsory insurance and around 50,000 others have social insurance in the form of voluntary insurance. Around 47 million people have health insurance, accounting for around 55 percent of the population.
