VietNamNet Bridge – More than 5,000 student volunteers and HCM City residents took part in a walk in HCM City on Sunday morning to support the Tiep Suc Den Truong (Giving Strength to Students) Scholarship Fund.

More than 5,000 student volunteers and HCM City residents took part in a walk in HCM City on Sunday morning. (Photo: Tuoi Tre) | The walk raised more than VND3.5 billion (US$197,000) for the fund, and the sponsors offered 60 scholarships worth VND1-2 million ($56-112) each for primary and secondary students from poor households.
The walk was part of the annual Volunteers' Festival organised for the third time by the city's Youth Federation, the city's Student Association and Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper.
People also donated blood during the event at the Dam Sen Cultural Park and city's Youth Cultural House, which attracted hundreds of people.
Youth volunteers and local residents in 322 wards in the city's 24 districts participated in a clean-up campaign and helped poor youth build or repair 31 houses.
As many as 20 new computers and 200 old ones were donated in an aim to help youngsters in rural areas and workers in export processing zones have access to the internet.
The event also honoured 50 individuals and 25 teams for their excellent achievements in volunteer activities at home and abroad.
