Police nab sellers of fake fertiliser
HCM City police on Tuesday discovered a total of 1,000 tonnes of imported fertiliser with fake labels being stored at local enterprises.
Police said 66 tonnes of low-quality fertiliser that had been re-packaged with fake labels were found at Khang Huy enterprise in Tan Phu District.
In addition, police found 800 tonnes of packaged fertilisers attached with the labels of the Vinacam Joint-Stock company and Can Tho Agricultural Materials Joint-Stock company at Vinh Quang enterprise in Binh Chanh District.
Energy firms help poor communities
Habitat for Humanity Viet Nam has received US$30,000 from Chevron, MOECO and PTTEP to provide sustainable housing solutions including water, sewerage and sanitation networks for underprivileged communities in Mekong delta Kien Giang Province. The companies are all investors in an offshore gas project in southern Viet Nam.
Starting in 2001, Habitat for Humanity Viet Nam has worked to provide low-cost housing, water and sanitation solutions to the poor in Viet Nam through various micro-credit schemes and low-cost affordable technologies in construction, water and sanitation.
Ban sought on polluting beer firm
The Nghe An Department of Natural Resources and Environment has suggested suspending the Sai Gon-Nghe An Beer Company for polluting environment.
The provincial authorities discovered the company’s premises in Vinh City were discharging untreated waste water into the Goong Lake in the city’s Hung Dung and Hung Hoa communes.
Earlier last year, the company was fined VND42 million (US$2,300) for a similar breach of regulations.
City student wins scholarship
Dang Nguyen Phuong Dung of HCM City’s Tran Dai Nghia high school for the gifted has won a scholarship the Australian embassy and consulate have instituted to commemorate the 35th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations.
The Australian consul in HCM City, Graeme Swift, said the award was "a very appropriate way to recognise the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Australia and Viet Nam."
She will receive the full tuition fee to study for a bachelor’s degree in commerce at RMIT International University in Viet Nam. The scholarship will be presented to her at a ceremony today at RMIT.
