VietNamNet Bridge - Vietnam exported 87,000 workers in 2008, exceeding the plan set up early last year (85,000).

The Republic of Korea is one of the most attractive markets for workers due to good working condition and high income. Last year, there were 18,000 Vietnamese workers exported to the country.

Numerically stronger, Taiwan drew some 30,000 Vietnamese workers in 2008, but cut-backs by businesses there prompted by the global economic crisis, sent over 500 Vietnamese workers to back home before fulfilling their contracts. That number is expected to be even higher this year.

According to Nguyen Ngoc Quynh, director of the Overseas Labour Management Department, under the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, the export of workers in 2009 will focus on training skilled workers and experts.
