Bridge – The Japanese Embassy in Vietnam on August 14 presented the Vietnamese Ministry of Health with around 74,000 doses of Tamiflu to prevent the new type of flu virus.

The Japanese Envoy, Daisuke Matsunaga, said he hoped that the medicine would help Vietnam cope with new flu epidemics.

The envoy said the assistance is part of a programme in which Japan provides members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) with 500,000 doses of Tamiflu through the ASEAN-Japan Integration Foundation.

The programme started in summer 2006, when the new type of flu virus was detected.
