| Two Vietnamese contestants, Nguyen Thi Huyen Trang and Nguyen Thi Tuyen | VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnam did not take home any medals from the 39th World Skill Contest in Japan from November 15-18 but Tran Hoang Ro won the Certificate of Excellence for the electric system installation competition.
To be presented with this certificate, contestants must record at least 500 points. With 507 points, Ro ranked 17th of 28 contestants in the electric system installation competition and won the certificate.
Ro, 22, is a student of the HCM City University of Industry. He previously won a bronze medal at the ASEAN Skill Contest and the second prize at the National Skill Contest in 2006.
The Eight-member Vietnamese team chalked up 489.25 points, ranking 25th of 46 participating countries and territories. Unfortunately, Huynh Co Tai was only two points short of attaining the Certificate of Excellence for the IT competition and Nguyen Thi Huyen Trang needed only three more points to win the certificate for the restaurant service competition.
The Jury presented 47 gold, 52 silver and 51 bronze medals and 242 Certificates of Excellence to competitors. Japan ranked first with 12 gold medals, followed by South Korea with 10, France 5, Switzerland 4, and Singapore 9. Nine counties did not take any medals or certificates.
The 39th World Skill Contest drew 820 competitors, 41 from Japan, 38 from Finland, and 37 from South Korea.
Five Southeast Asian countries sent contestants, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
