John Wood visits poor children in Can Giuoc district in the southern province of Long An.

VietNamNet Bridge – John Wood, who was selected by Time magazine as Asian hero in 2004, and is the founder of the US’ Room to Read charity organisation, has come to Vietnam.

The aim of this trip, from August 5-10, is to see projects funded by Room to Read Vietnam to build computer rooms, classrooms, and grant scholarships to Vietnamese students in HCM City, Long An and Vinh Long.

This is the fourth time Mr. John Wood has come to Vietnam. In the past, he came to the country in the post of Marketing Manager in Asia Pacific of Microsoft. In 1998, Mr. Wood left Microsoft to establish the Room to Read. This year, this organisation plans to provide more than $1 million for those projects.

The visit is also an opportunity for American donors, including Qualcomm, to survey the Room to Read organisation’s programmes in Vietnam to provide funding for those projects in the future.
