VietNamNet Bridge – The HCM City Department of Health on June 11 made public a list of 25 producers of 55 brands of soya sauce that meet the Health Ministry’s 3-MCPD carcinogen standard.
The list was made based on the reports submitted by producers themselves about sauce quality tests. The HCM City Department of Health said that it would test those products again to verify producers’ reports.
The department announced it did not recognise the quality of soya sauce brands of the remaining 15 producers that didn’t submit their reports of sauce quality and asked related agencies to punish those producers. June 10 was the deadline for sauce producers to submit testing results of their sauces to the HCM City Department of Health.
On the same day, the HCM City Department of Natural Resources and the Environment met with related agencies and producers of toxic sauce to discuss measures to destroy toxic products.
Along with inspecting the quality of locally-made sauce products, the HCM City Department of Health has asked preventive health teams to take samples of imported sauce sold in the market to test for 3-MCPD content.
The department has also decided to inspect all fish sauce and sauce producing establishments located in HCM City.
