The Hanoi People’s Committee decided to discipline those officials after considering reports of agencies related to the operations of the New Century discotheque on May 7.

The Trade Department’s report mentioned the discotheque’s sales of alcohol and cigarettes without licences. The Culture and Information Department confirmed to not extend and grant discotheque business licence at 10, Trang Thi Street, where the New Century discotheque was located.

The Department of Planning and Investment has withdrawn professional practice certificate of dancing, wine and cigarette of the Thang Long Flamboyant Co, Ltd., the operator of New Century.

The Hanoi People’s Committee has instructed the Director of the Hanoi Trade Department and related officials to consider and punish those who are responsible for alcohol and cigarette trading without licences at New Century and report to the committee before May 11.

According to the Hanoi People’s Committee, this is just the first step. After police release the official investigation results of violations at New Century, the city will continue considering and chastising individuals and organisations that are related to the discotheque’s violation under the law.

In related news, the manager of New Century, Nguyen Dai Duong, has been prosecuted for organising the use of illegal drugs.

Duong admitted that he knew that many people went to New Century to use narcotics and dance but they were so crowded so his couldn’t control it.

Five other people who were arrested at New Century on April 28 have been also prosecuted for trading narcotics. One is let out on bail because she has a small baby.
