VietNamNet Bridge - The mysterious oil spill has come to Bach Long Vy Island in the northern city of Hai Phong, after attacking many provinces in the central region.

Oil has appeared densely on 1.5km of sea around Bach Long Vy Island. It is very difficult to collect the oil because of oil sponges on stone-banks and sand. Local residents have collected over 300 sacks of oil.

According to statistics by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, 13 provinces have been polluted by oil since early March 2007, including Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Thua Thien - Hue, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, Tien Giang, Ben Tre, Tra Vinh, Soc Trang, Ca Mau, Khanh Hoa and Hai Phong.

Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Pham Khoi Nguyen said that around 500km of coast of the central region has been polluted with oil and different level. The source of oil spill has not been defined yet.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has sent diplomatic notes to some embassies in Vietnam to ask for help to seek the source of the oil spill.
