Bac Giang: pit explodes, 6 workers seriously injured

VietNamNet Bridge – At 7pm on January 8, a serious explosion occurred in a coal pit in Dong Huu commune, Yen The district in Bac Giang Province. Six workers came within an inch of their lives.

A victim of the explosion

A big explosion was heard from the coal mining area in Yen The district in Bac Giang province yesterday evening, which was followed by a high flame.

 

Those who were present at the spot related that four workers were working in the pit, while two others were at the entrance to the pit. When people reached the scene, all six workers had been seriously burned.

 

They are now being treated at the National Scalding Treatment Hospital. Dr Nguyen Nhu Lam, Head of the Emergency Ward under the hospital, said that four of the six workers were in very critical condition.

 

The names of the four workers are Nguyen Van Tan, 40, Chu Van Chien, 32, Dam Van Tan 36, and Dam Van Tien, 22, who all come from Yen The district, Bac Giang Province.

 

According to Mr Lam, the four workers have burns on 80% of their bodies, and the burn depth is more than 60%. They currently need respirators in order to breathe.

 

The exploding pit belongs to the coal mining area of the Bac Giang Mineral Joint Stock Company.

 

Methane might have been responsible for the explosion.
