VietNamNet Bridge - On January 8, in the beach city of Ha Long, Quang Ninh province, the Secretariat Board of the Central Party organised a preliminary summing-up conference of two years implementing conclusion announcement No 162-TB/TW dated December 1, 2004 by the Politburo (the 10th term) on press management and leadership; propagation of big issues and events of the country in 2007.

According to the National Assembly’s Department of Central Culture and Ideology, there has been a great deal of progress in the press during the past two years with the remarkable increase in the number of journalists and the quality of publications in the forms of periodical magazines and electronic newspapers.

As of July 2006, there were nearly 620 press agencies, over 803 publications and press products including 172 newspapers, 448 magazines, 67 television and audio broadcasting stations at the central and provincial level and around 600 television and broadcasting stations at the grassroots level.

The whole country has 88 electronic newspapers and around 2,000 daily bulletins as well as thousands of electronic websites. Over 13,000 journals have been granted professional cards, and many more are now being considered.

Most importantly, the press has helped bring guidelines and policies of the Party and the Government to people everywhere; truly given voice to people’s thoughts and expectations and paved the way for the fight against social evils such as corruption, wrongdoings and dissipation.

The conference runs until January 10, 2007.
