VietNamNet - The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) has instructed local authorities to finish the two vaccination drives for their poultry stocks by October to prevent new bird flu outbreaks.

The instruction was released by MARD Deputy Minister Bui Ba Bong at a working session in Tien Giang province on July 27 with local administrations in the Mekong Delta and southeastern provinces to discuss measures on management of water fowl in the region.

Bong also asked local administrations to stricly observe requirements on standard poultry slaughter-houses as well as to timely report to responsible agencies any outbreaks in their localities in order to have the necessary response.

MARD had allowed the resumption of chicken farming but still imposes a ban on waterfowl at earliest till February of 2007.
