The police in central Ha Tinh Province on May 3 arrested Le Hong Qui, the leader of a trans-national drug trafficking ring, with the assistance of the police in Laos' Bolikhamsay Province.

Qui, 32, admitted that he had smuggled 20 cakes of heroin from Laos into Vietnam. The Vietnamese citizen fled to Laos three years ago while being sought for by police on charges of drug trafficking.

On April 29, border guards in Ha Tinh arrested three suspected drug smugglers: Tran Van Ngoc, 40, Tran Van Le, 34, and Le Tung Hong, 41.

They also confiscated three handguns, 12 bullets, a grenade, 28,000 USD, two motorbikes and three mobile phones. The three are from Do Luong District in neighbouring Nghe An Province.

The border guards also seized 300 grams of heroin, VND175mil (US$11,100) and drug-related tools while searching the trio's shelter.
