Contestants of Miss Vietnam Global 2007 pageant contest

VietNamNet Bridge – Huong Giang returned home from Miss Asia 2007 with bare hands. With Miss International Image, which was not counted as an official title at Miss International 2007, Thuy Duong went home with a consolation. Vietnam continues to lose at international contests in 2007.

Who should represent Vietnam at Miss World contest?

Beauty contests mushrooming at home

2007 is called the year of pageant contests in Vietnam. Vietnamese audiences have never seen such a large number of beauty contests as during this year.

So far this year, at least five beauty contests have been held: Miss Sea, Miss Vietnam Global, Miss Sport, Miss Jewelry, and Miss Tay Do. In the remaining time of the year, other beauty contests will continue, such as Miss Vietnam Ethnic, Miss Talent of Coastal Regions, Miss Charity, Miss Photo and others.

Pageant contests take place continuously. A very short time after the curtain of the Miss Sea competition fell in May 2007 in the coastal city of Hai Phong, beautiful girls went to Vinpearl Land in Nha Trang city, Khanh Hoa province in the central region for the finals of Miss Vietnam Global 2007 in August.

While the echo from Miss Vietnam Global 2007 and Miss Ngo Phuong Lan was still in everyone’s ears, they began to follow Miss Sport 2007 in Hanoi in October. While Tran Thi Quynh from Hai Phong was still flying high with the crown of Miss Sport, ten days later her hometown friend, Luu Thi Van Anh, became Miss Jewelry.

When Miss Jewelry had just finished in Hanoi, at the Phu Sa Tourist Zone in the Mekong Delta City of Can Tho, 16 girls entered the final round of the Miss Tay Do competition. On December 17, audiences will know who is Miss Tay Do 2007.

The time it takes to find beauty queens is different. The final round of Miss Vietnam Global took place over nearly one month. That of Miss Sport was around two weeks and it was only several days for Miss Jewelry.

Within six months, four beauty queens have been crowned: Miss Sea Dang Minh Thu, Miss Vietnam Global Ngo Phuong Lan, Miss Sport Tran Thi Quynh and Miss Jewelry Luu Van Anh.

The mushrooming of beauty queens makes the audience giddy and many ask themselves where did so many beauty queens come from?

Leaving zealously, returning with nothing!

Is it funny that Vietnam has a “bumper crop” of pageant contests at home but it loses in the international beauty arena?

In the last four months of 2007 Vietnam sent five girls to international beauty contests: Tran Thi Huong Giang to Miss Asia in Hong Kong, Pham Thi Thuy Duong to Miss International in Japan, Nguyen Ai Chau to Miss Young International in Taiwan, Truong Tri Truc Diem to Miss Earth in the Philippines and Dang Minh Thu to Miss World in China. Regretfully, they left and returned with zero.

Actually, Thuy Duong was consoled with Miss International Image from an online poll, which was not considered an official prize at the contest. Ai Chau won a sub-title “Miss Best Smile” and Truong Tri Truc Diem was named Miss Fashion in a special competition held in Vietnam by Miss Earth.

However, the small prizes of Ai Chau and Truc Diem have not helped Vietnam gain any improvement in the global beauty ranking.

In the global beauty ratings by Grand Slam Ranking, which is made based on the results of major international beauty contests, Canada enters the top ten, Georgia jumps from 90th to 73rd, Romania from 68th to 58th while Vietnam is still at 52nd like last year.

The country’s hope is now placed on Miss Sea Dang Minh Thu, who is at Miss World in China. However, this hope is dim as the competition is nearly closed and Thu seems to be dim as well.
