The cover of an album by “The Legend” band | VietNamNet Bridge – After the trend of using “sexy” covers for their albums, Vietnamese singers now are creating special covers with violent, thrilling scenes to attract the eyes of buyers.
Music albums show the personality of the artist, especially the cover. A number of cover designers have appeared to serve singers only. Among them Dung Yoko, Cong Tri, Duong Minh Long, and Nguyen Huu Thai are considered outstanding for their artistic covers.
Visiting a music shop, one can see music CDs, VCDs and DVDs of various forms, from square to rectangular, circular, short, long and even octagonal. Bored with the change of forms, singers have returned to the standard form (12cm x 15cm) and invested more in materials.
Besides disk boxes made of transparent, hard plastic, paper is a favourite material since it is easier for artists to express the singer’s idea. Some singers even use wood and cloth to make disk covers.
Building the image of a singer on album cover is a difficult job because it requires good taste in art and funding as well. Several years ago, a singer named Quach Thanh Danh launched his first album name “I” with his photo on the cover, which shows him in his underwear. The photo that designer considered “sexy” brought failure for this album when it was banned in the market.
After Quach Thanh Danh, an album of singer Luu Viet Hung, namely “The Princess of Ocean” was also banned because of its “sexy” cover, which shows half of the body of this singer naked.

The cover of “Dialogue 06” album of singer Tran Thu Ha, which is appreciated for its artistic taste. | However, the scandals related to these albums helped those new singers become “famous”. Is this a trick to become famous?
Even now, when the name Quach Thanh Danh is not mentioned anymore and Luu Viet Hung is just a dim star, the two above scandals are still remembered.
For her first album, singer Trieu Trang has introduced an album named “Doll 8X” with a sexy cover. Recently, young song writer Giang Son made an album which on its cover is the image of a naked girl; but when the album was released its cover was just half of the naked girl.
In his new album named Kool Boy, Cao Thai Son is half-naked on the cover. Explaining this, the singer said that the cover was suitable to the music line in the album (dance music) and the sexy image that he is building. “Sexy but still artistic,” he said.
Rocker Pham Anh Khoa also introduced his first album named PAK with a cover featuring his naked back.
Meanwhile, the cover of an album by “The Legend” band looks like poster of a kungfu film or action film from Hong Kong.
Singers don’t like to be naked anymore, but have action scenes on their album covers. A series of young singers have also done so, including Ly Hai, Dan Truong, Thai Trieu Luan, the Legend band, Thai Phong Vu.
Impressionism is also a new trend for album covers recently. Some singers said that they no longer liked to show their faces clearly on their album covers.
In his first album, song writer Tang Nhat Tue appears vaporously on the cover. Early this year, another song writer, Nguyen Vinh Tien, also released his first album with an opaque face on the cover.

Another singer that loves this style is Tung Duong, with “Blue eyes”, “Solar Eclipse 2”, and “Cubes” albums.
Some artists don’t use their photos on their album covers, but artworks, for example Wings of the Sun of 5 dong ke girl band.
If the voice guarantees the position of singers in the music market, the album covers reflect their face, personality and their taste in art. And the levels of Vietnamese singers have been already shown on their album covers.
