149 Vietnamese officials disciplined for corruption

VietNamNet Bridge – So far this year 149 officials have been disciplined for corruption according to a government report to the National Assembly.

 

According to the report, of the149, 13 face criminal proceedings, 50 were reprimanded, 58 had to serve a warning and 25 were dismissed. HCM City has the highest number of the cases, 38, including 10 for the Ministry of Public Security.

 

Since October 1 2008, 243 corruption cases with 520 defendants have been brought to court. The total assets lost by corruption is worth over 700 billion dong ($41.2 million), half of the sum has been reclaimed for the state budget. The highest penalty for corruption is life imprisonment.

 

The government admitted that some corruption cases were slowly judged. Meanwhile, the National Assembly Standing Committee said that corruption is still serious and complex.
