VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnam fully supports the intensified and coordinated efforts of the international community to establish an immediate, permanent, effective and monitored ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and thus ensure long-term peace and stability in the region, said a Vietnamese diplomat.

Charge d’Affaires Vu Anh Quang from the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations Office, the World Trade Organisation and Other International Organisations at Geneva made the statement at a Special Session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva on Jan.12 to address on the grave violations of human rights in the occupied Palestinian Territory, including the recent aggression in the occupied Gaza Strip.

Quang expressed Vietnam ’s profound concern about escalating situation in the Gaza Strip over the past few days which has been causing the alarming toll of innocent lives and widespread destruction of the infrastructure and private properties of innocent Palestinians since Israel launched its military operations into Gaza.

“We are gravely preoccupied by the worsening humanitarian crisis being faced by Palestinians in Gaza as a result of the ongoing military actions, the continued closure of border crossings, the obstruction of access of humanitarian aid, including food and medicine, and the reduction of fuel and electricity supplies,” the diplomat added.

He called upon the parties concerned to respect the rules of human rights law and international humanitarian law and to exercise self-restraint and immediately stop violence against the civilian population.

The Vietnamese representative spoke highly of United Nations agencies and other humanitarian organisations’ work under challenging circumstances on the ground to provide emergency and humanitarian assistance to the civilian population in Gaza.
