Vietnam condemns murder of Vietnamese student

– “Vietnam has asked Russia to urgently investigate the case, find the murderers and strictly punish them under the law,” said Foreign Ministry Spokesman Le Dung on Monday morning. 

Answering questions about Vietnam’s response to the murder of a Vietnamese student in Moscow, Le Dung said: “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was very sad to receive the news that student Tang Quoc Binh was murdered in Moscow. We condemn this brutal act and offer our deepest condolences to the family of student Tang Quoc Binh.”

The Vietnamese Embassy in Russia sent a diplomatic note to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Home Affairs, and Ministry of Science and Education expressing deep concern about this serious case and asked Russian agencies to quickly inquire into the case. The embassy has also cooperated with the victim’s family and Russian agencies to fulfill formalities to bring the victim’s body back to Vietnam

On Sunday the Press Attache of the Russian Embassy in Hanoi, Alexei Shevtsov, told VietNamNet that the Investigation Agency under the Russia Procuracy had opened the case of the murder of the Vietnamese student. Through VietNamNet, Russian diplomats in Vietnam offered their condolences to the student’s family. 

The Ministry of Education and Training said the ministry is cooperating with the Vietnamese Embassy in Russia to negotiate with Russian partners to strengthen measures to protect Vietnamese students in this country. 

According to the Ministry of Education and Training, several thousands of Vietnamese non-state sponsored students are studying in Russia.  

Tang Quoc Binh, a Vietnamese first year student at the Russian State University of Management (GUU) was fatally stabbed near a metro station in Moscow when he was on his way home. Binh was taken to the hospital, but he died at 1:00am, January 10, Moscow time after five hours of emergency aid.
