Algeria’s National Day marked in Vietnam

Algerian Ambassador Naceur Boucherit on Nov. 4 held a banquet to mark the 54th Revolutionary Day, also the National Day of his country (Nov. 1).

His Vietnamese guests included Deputy Foreign Minister Dao Viet Trung, diplomats and representatives of relevant agencies.

Addressing the event, the Ambassador expressed his pleasure to see the two countries’ long-time and sincere amity has been developing to match with their great potentials.

He said he believed that with the two sides’ efforts, the bilateral relations would be tightened and strongly developed.

On behalf of the Vietnamese Government and people, Deputy FM Trung extended congratulations to the Algerian Government and people on the National Day.

He said, Vietnam, as a close friend of Algeria, always pays attention to and is glad at the achievements the Algerian people recorded in their national development.

Upholding the traditional relationship, the two countries have been expanding their comprehensive cooperation, particularly in trade, oil and gas industry.

Vietnam, Bulgaria expect further cooperation

Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ivailo Kalfin, who was on an official visit to Vietnam from Oct. 31 to Nov. 4, expressed his wish to see the relationship between his country and Vietnam further develop.

Received by Vietnamese PM Nguyen Tan Dung on Nov. 4, the Bulgarian Deputy PM said he wished the two countries to boost their cooperation in agriculture, particularly in research for new varieties, as well as in culture, tourism and investment.

He affirmed that Bulgaria is eager to use ODA capital to support Vietnam, particularly in education.

He recommended Vietnam to transport its commodities to European countries via Bulgaria’s ports.

The Deputy PM also said the Bulgarian President is scheduled to visit Vietnam next year to mark a significant development in the two countries’ 60-year-long bilateral relations.

PM Dung appreciated the results of the talks between Deputy PM Kalfin and his counterpart Pham Gia Khiem.

He praised the valuable assistance the Bulgarian people had given to Vietnam during its struggle for national independence in the past and national construction at present.

He said Bulgaria helped Vietnam to train many cadres, who now are holding important positions in Vietnam and also serving as bridges for development of the two countries’ relations.

Youth Committee called to strengthen capacity

The National Committee on Youth of Vietnam (NCYV) needs to strengthen its organisation and capacity to help the Government in important issues related to youth affairs, said Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan on Nov. 4.

Nhan was speaking at the 18th plenary session of the committee, which reviewed its performance in the first ten month of 2008 and put forward its tasks in 2009.

The meeting discussed the committee’s work for the rest of the year and the next year, including strengthening its capacity to help the Government direct the implementation of policies and laws as well as the resolution of the Party’s Central Committee concerning the youth.

Participants also debated the formulation of a government action plan for the youth, and a decree on young volunteers, among others.

Vietnam, Cambodia build border markers

The Vietnamese province of Long An and the Cambodian provinces of Prey Veng and Svay Rieng on November 4 started building two landmarks on their borderline.

The construction of border markers No. 230-1 and 230-2, which is expected to be completed by mid-December this year, is part of an agreement of the Vietnam-Cambodia Joint Committee for Border Demarcation and Landmark Planting.

Long An and the two Cambodian provinces share nearly 138.000 km of borderline on which they agreed to plant 62 landmarks.
