VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnam is expected to open another consulate in the United States in Houston, Texas, said a foreign relations officer for Vietnam.

Last week, Deputy Chief of Foreign Relations Committee, Ngo Duc Manh said at the meeting with the press in the northern province of Ninh Binh that the proposal of the consulate opening will be submitted to the session of the National Assembly.

At present, Vietnam has an Embassy in Washington, D.C. and a consulate office in San Francisco, California.

In accordance with international practices, the United States will also be expected to open another consulate in the central province of Da Nang, added the Deputy Chief.

He said that a draft law of national representative offices overseas will be discussed in the coming session of the National Assembly, following a concentration of management of all representative offices overseas in a unified body.

Since 2001, many oversea representative offices, including defense attaché, commercial attaché, and labor management have separately operated under its governing body’s umbrella.
