General Giap warmly congratulated on his 97th birthday

General Phung Quang Thanh, Party Politburo Member and Minister of National Defense led a high-ranking military delegation to visit General Vo Nguyen Giap (photo) on the occasion of his 97th birthday.

Mr Thanh wished General Vo Nguyen Giap good health and longevity to further contributing to the Party’s revolutionary cause and the development of the Vietnam People’s Army.

He informed General Giap of the achievements recorded by the Vietnam People’s Army in training, getting ready for combat, and helping people reduce poverty and cope with epidemics and natural disasters.

General Giap expressed his pleasure at the Army’s achievements and hoped that it will continue to uphold the tradition of Uncle Ho soldiers to study hard, foster revolutionary ethics and fulfill the tasks assigned by the Party, State and people.

Vietnam to sign ASEAN accord on accounting and auditing

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved the content of an ASEAN framework agreement on mutual recognition of accounting an auditing services.

He has delegated the Ministry of Industry and Commerce to sign the agreement at the ASEAN Economic Ministers’ 40 th Conference to be held in Singapore by late August, according to the Prime Minister Office.

The PM also assigned the Ministry of Finance to work with other ministries and agencies to prepare for the execution of the agreement after it is signed.

Military court officers visit South Africa

A delegation of the Central Military Court headed by Judge Major-General Tran Van Do paid a working visit to South Africa from August 18-23.

During their visit, the Vietnamese officers exchanged working experiences and discussed future cooperation projects with their colleagues from South Africa’s military court.

The delegates were received by Chief of the South African National Defence Force Gen. G. N Ngwenya, who described the visit as more evidence of expanded cooperative relations between the two Ministries of National Defence.

They also called at several historical and cultural sites and landscapes in South Africa.
