Germany seeks ways to boost ties with Vietnam

Germany’s Schweriner Volkszeitung newspaper has praised Vietnam’s economic achievements and highlighted investment and trading opportunities for German entrepreneurs in the Southeast Asian country.

The paper ran an article when President of the German Federal Council Harald Ringstorff kicked off a week-long official friendship visit to Vietnam on September 2.

The paper said that Vietnam has maintained an economic growth rate of over 8 percent for a decade. Since the beginning of 2007, the country has attracted 814 foreign projects with the total investment capital of close to 7.1 billion USD.

Ringstorff’s Vietnam visit is aimed at opening more rooms for German businessmen to penetrate into one of the most dynamic economies in Asia.

The visit also aims to boost scientific and technological cooperation, namely the building of a research programme in natural sciences with assistance from Germany’s universities and institutes, the paper reported.

The paper also highlighted prospects for German companies to join hands with Vietnamese partners in the pharmaceutical industry and the environmental protection in the Red River and Mekong deltas.
