VietNamNet Bridge - Vietnam is highly appreciative of the role the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has played in aiding the country's development.

That was the message delivered by National Assembly Chairman, Nguyen Phu Trong to visiting IMF Deputy Managing Director Takatoshi Kato in Ha Noi, on May 24.

The NA chief went on to thank the IMF for its help in providing consultancy on policy-making and technical support particularly regarding financial systems.

Chairman Trong informed the visiting IMF leader of Vietnam's commitment to continuing to implement its market reforms in order to integrate even deeper into the global economy. He stressed that during the country’s renovation period, the NA has actively promoted reforms in law making and was a key player in supervising and deciding issues of importance.

Kato was of the opinion that the NA was instrumental to the country’s socio-economic development and this was witnessed by the increasing participation of the public in successful events such as the recently concluded 12th NA elections.

The IMF leader said he wanted to study the NA’s future law-making work, particularly those relating to the equitisation of the state-owned commercial banks.

He stressed however that reforms would have to continue to create a more advantageous environment for Vietnam’s development.
