The late Party General Secretary Truong Chinh was a great personality and a good example for younger revolutionaries in Viet Nam, said Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh at a ceremony marking the late Party leader's 100th birthday (Feb. 9) held in Ha Noi on Feb. 8.

The ceremony was jointly held by the Communist Party of Viet Nam Central Committee, the National Assembly, the Government, the Viet Nam Fatherland Front and Ha Noi People's Committee.

The Party leader described Truong Chinh as a staunch communist, an excellent disciple of President Ho Chi Minh, and an outstanding leader of the Party and the nation. His name and career were closely connected to the Vietnamese revolution's achievements during the 20th century.

Truong Chinh, whose real name is Dang Xuan Khu, was born on Feb. 9, 1907 in Hanh Thien village, Xuan Hong commune, Xuan Truong district, northern Nam Dinh province. He held twice the position of the Party General Secretary between 1941-1960 and in 1986. He was also President (Chairman of the council of state) from 1981 to 1987. He died in 1988.
