VietNamNet Bridge – National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong said the national law making body would create more practical laws of higher quality for effective implementation in people's daily lives.
"We have to build a legal system that is more specific, democratic and more practical in nature," Trong said at the NA's Standing Committee regular meeting for planning strategies for building the legal system.
The Chairman said the new laws would be drafted in such a way as to make them an essential part of people's lives. The NA would reduce the number of ordinances guiding and interpreting laws, Trong said.
The country's legal system had been reformed step by step over the past years with public support, ensuring a state governed by law.
Though the number of laws enacted had increased the operational capacity and execution of Government agencies, the legal system was not yet comprehensive, Trong said, pointing to the low quality and impractical objectives of laws.
At the meeting, Minister of Justice Uong Chu Luu presented a draft report on strategies to build and complete the country's legal system till 2010, and its orientations for 2020.
According to the report, related legal institutions should focus on creating a feasible legal system that would be more comprehensive and transparent.
The report also said that, this year, the National Assembly would begin work on some important tasks, including amendments to some articles in the 1992 Constitution and review the existing legal system for revisions.
