Nguyen Phu Trong elected new NA Chairman

VietNamNet – Nguyen Phu Trong, Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee, was elected by National Assembly deputies as the new NA Chairman this afternoon, June 26.

 

The newly elected NA Chairman would immediately chair the session and would recommend candidates for President on behalf of the NA Standing Committee.

 

The assembly will vote the new President tomorrow morning, June 27, 2006, who will then recommend a new Prime Minister, set for a vote for on June 27.

 

The new Prime Minister would then submit proposals to the National Assembly to approve some outgoing cabinet members. If delegates agree, the new Prime Minister would nominate replacements on June 28. The NA Chairman would also recommend candidates for Chief Government Inspector, set for a vote on June 28, when the Assembly will vote on new cabinet members.

 

On June 29, per the new President, the NA would then officially ratify a new Vice President and members of the Council for Defence and Security.

 

The 9th NA session will close on the afternoon of June 29 and will be broadcast live on VTV1. At this final meeting, the NA will approve the resolution on the 2006-2010 economic and social development plan and the resolution on land use in 2006-2010.
