Green pearls on Spartly Islands

VietNamNet Bridge - In sun and winds, Spartly Islands are covered with the green of trees and vegetables. By the hands of young soldiers, lives are growing on different islands. There are the newest photos about the Spartly Islands on the occasion of the 34th anniversary of the liberation of the Islands.

Over 250 nautical miles from the mainland, the big Spartly Islands have an area of over 0.2 square kilometers and is the place where the headquarter of the Spartly Islands district People’s Committee is located.

There have been many changes in life on the Islands. Spacious residential areas, with the voices of learning students, are surrounded by large trees.

Between soldiers’ units and residential areas are beds of vegetables which are green all year round.

Under shady trees are young soldiers.

On other floating islands, spaces are utilized to grow trees and vegetables.

Many kinds of vegetables, which do not survive in harsh weather, grow fast under the care of soldiers.

On sunken islands, beds of vegetables are planted on blockhouses.

Soldiers save every drop of fresh water to water vegetables on the islands where the sun, wind and salt takes its toll on the plants. Each handful of land is brought from the mainland. Soldiers here make a comparison that each drop of water is a pearl and land is as precious as gold.

Frame houses look like bird’s nests.

Soldiers here always set aside for spaces for gardens.

The green of the soldiers’ clothes and the green of volunteers create pearls sparkling throughout the Spartly Islands.
