Painter Le Canh and “Look” exhibition

The “Look” exhibition by artist Le Canh or Tran Thach Sa will open until August 3 at the Exhibition House of the HCM City University of Arts, 5 Phan Dang Luu, Binh Thanh district.
The exhibition with 17 paintings by synthetic materials is the stories with philosophy of Chinese chess board.
Viewers can feel the rich philosophical nuances of the chess board, pictures associated with wars and battles in the imagination; soldiers in many circumstances: in tension and stress, in chaos and fierce battles, in a tight defence, in a drastic attack, and in puzzled and frightened situation.
Naming the exhibition “Look”, the artist suggests the audience participate in finishing the stories of the boards with their associations, as well as their own personal memories.
“Look” is the continuation of an exhibition of the same name held in Da Lat city in July 2009.
Da Lat comes to Thang Long – Hanoi
The exhibition by artist Vi Quoc Hiep displays 50 paintings about Da Lat, flowers and young girls, etc.
Vi Quoc Hiep, a Tay ethnic painter, has lived in Da Lat for many years. He loves painting in the theme of old villa in Da Lat. Therefore, when he comes to Hanoi for the exhibition, he brought 50 paintings in that theme as a gift for Hanoi and the 1000 years anniversary of Thang Long – Hanoi.
Vi Quoc Hiep graduated from Fine Art University in 1971, he was awarded 4 medals “For the Cause of Vietnam literature and art”, many of his paintings are displayed at 6 national and local museums.
Ten Vietnamese female painters attend exhibition in the US
They will participate in a painting exhibition named “Her Presence in Colours IX” at Littman Gallery, Portland University, Oregon, USA from August 1-31.
They are Cao Thị Ðược, Ðặng Thị Dương, Nguyễn Thùy Hương, Lê Thị Kim, Công Tần Tôn Nữ Ái Lan, Trần Thùy Linh, Nguyễn Thị Tâm, Huỳnh Phương Thị Ðài Trang, Lý Chánh Vân and Nguyễn Thị Quang Vinh.
The exhibition, organized by the International Women Artists Council (INWAC), has the theme “Self Portrait – Reflection of Self”. This is the third time Vietnamese artists taking part in this event.
The exhibition attracts 84 artists from 24 countries.
Vietnamese artists at an international exhibition in Thailand
Akko Art Gallery (Bangkok, Thailand) will open a contemporary art exhibition at BACC (Bangkok Art and Culture Center), 31 Jul 2 pm. The exhibition draws together 13 Thai,
4 Japanese and 2 Vietnamese painters (Le Thanh Thu and Uyen Huy).
The paintings by Le Thanh Thu in this exhibition follows the style he shown in his solo exhibition in 12 May 2009, HCM City.
Le Thanh Thu said he liked “Gia tri song” the best (oil and acrylic painting, 100x40cm, includes two panels, 2010), as it has blended nuances of Vietnames people’s lives today.
Da Lat – Exhibition “31 days”
Moon House hotel, 16 Hung Vuong, Da Lat City, hosts the exhibition “31 days” painted by fingers by painter Vo Trinh Bien.
31 paintings in the exhibition introduce faces, expressing different psychological states and stories of artists’ fate. Through exhibitions, the artist wants to express philosophy of the relationship between the human and the universe.
Apart from traditional drawings and quite unique method which is finger painting with oil painting, in this exhibition, Vo Editor introduces some works painted by using the cylinder to pump color – which the author called “Pump Color to life.”
100 photos of Vietnamese women to be displayed
100 photos featuring the beauty of Vietnamese women created by photographer Van Tho will be showcased at the Temple of Literature in Hanoi on August 6.
The exhibition, co-organised by the Vietnam Photographers’ Association and the Vietnam News Agency (VNA), is part of the activities to celebrate the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi, and the 80th anniversary of the Vietnam Women’s Union.
Through the exhibition, photographer Van Tho wants to highlight the traditional beauty of Vietnamese women, from senior leaders to Vietnamese heroic mothers, heroes of the people’s armed forces, scientists, teachers, businesswomen and artists.
Van Tho now nearly 80 is a former VNA photojournalist, who has devoted all of his life to the arts and has successfully organised eight individual exhibitions and published four photo collections.
Bridal accessories to be showcased at Sheraton fair
An annual exhibition of bridal accessories will be held at the Sheraton Sai Gon Hotel&Towers in HCM City on August 7-8.
The exhibition will offer a one-stop shop for wedding essentials, from make-up and hair design to floral displays and photographers.
Showcasing their wares will be Hong Ty Ao Dai, Hanh Phuc Vang Bridal Shop, Thai Tai gown, P&T, Milano, Venus, A Soen, Rosano Design Architects, UNIQUE Jewellery, Gia Gia Jewellery, and Le Hang Crystal.
There will be fashion shows showcasing the latest bridal dress colection at 3pm and 7pm.
Early Summer Lotus 4’ opens in Hanoi
As part of activities in the lead up to the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long - an exhibition named “Early Summer Lotus 4” opened on Tuesday at Vietnam Fine Arts Museum, 66 Nguyen Thai Hoc Street, Hanoi.
There are 30 paintings and three sculptures by 14 Buddhist artists. This is the fourth joint exhibition of the group Mac Huong in Vietnam and other countries.
The artists are Nguyen Thi Nhan, Do Minh Tam, Vu Bich Thuy, Nguyen Quang Duc, Dang Phuong Viet, Nguyen Duc Long, Dang Duc Thanh, Le Tien Cong, Nguyen Duc Quang Nguyen Xuan Hai, Vu Viet Hung, Nguyen Thang, and Tran Luu Tuan.
The exhibition depicts the Thang Long Buddhism’s beauty of life, liberation and inclination to the good.
It runs till August 2.
Artifact and antique exhibition in Can Tho
An antiques exhibition, featuring 600 antiques, relics and photos from 50 collectors from Vietnam, Thailand, China, Cambodia, Japan and North Korea and Europe is on at Can Tho City Museum until August 22.
A Dong Son bronze drum dating back 2,000 years, axes, bows and many artifacts from the stone, bronze and iron ages plus exhibits from the first to eighteenth centuries are on display. Pottery works are also exhibited. “Vietnam is proud to be a nation with a long cultural tradition. So, visitors will learn about the arts of Dong Son, Sa Huynh, Oc Eo, Cham Pa and Dai Viet cultures at this exhibition,” said collector Huynh Minh Hiep.
The museum is located at 1 Hoa Binh Street, Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City.
Latin band swings Caravelle Hotel
Cuban band Luna Negra gave an amazing Vietnam debut performance last weekend at the Saigon Saigon Bar at Caravelle Hotel.
Luna Negra played dozens of songs without a break building the energy in classic Latin American style.
Audiences were stirred by the professionalism of the band’s two singers and four instrumentalists.
The group left their home town of Matanzas for their residence at Caravelle. Their music encompasses styles such as salsa, bachata and merenegue with a new twist on the classic Cuban sound.
The music, which features prominent violin work, promises to move both Vietnamese and international audiences’ hearts and feet in equal measure.
Luna Negra’s emotive lyrics have gained fans throughout Spain, Italy, China and Venezuela.
“These are serious musicians but they know how to have fun and they’ve got a lot of live experience under their belts despite being so young,” said John Gardner, general manager of Caravelle Hotel.
They will be performing at the Caravelle everyday except Tuesdays.
French Improvisational Theater in HCMC
The Amitié Sans Frontière (ASF- Friendship without Frontiers) will present an improvised performance of a Vietnamese fairy tale called Tam Cam on August 8.
The show performed in French language will be held at the HCMC Union of Friendship Organizations (HUFO), 31 Le Duan, Ho Chi Minh City.
Four teams of French language students from three universities including University of Technology, University of Natural Sciences, and University of Economics, and the Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted will take part in the performance.
Using the Tam Cam storyline as a guide, the actors will be randomly assigned to play in different scenes and improvise their parts. They will be given a short time to prepare. The teams must work together so the play runs as smoothly as possible and makes sense to the audience.
ASF’s members are mostly young students studying French in HCMC. Since it was established in November 2009, ASF has held monthly gatherings to provide opportunities to practice French, network, and take part in social activities.
